The perplexity Hale’s official Twitter account caused with the tweet’s one sentence tends to elicit the same reaction: “What is this?” The sentence, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨,” has nothing to do with the tweet’s associated image, yet it greatly escalated the number of responses Hale received, and they surely are something else.

First, think of the Hale account that frequently tweets about esports, game updates, and Master Chief. Their sudden tweet completely diverged from their usual halo-related content, which certainly didn’t go unnoticed to halo’s followers. Naturally, the comments section was a delightful mix of bewildered halo fans, soft jabs, and genuine frustration from gamers yearning for the six-axis controller.

The gamer @Chenzo011 expressed, “what happened to make you fall so far. like you WERE gaming. HALO was a global thing and now your posting this. FFS man😫😫😫.” I share these sentiments. So many users echo the same sentiments, expressing a desire for anything that isn’t this. “Make better games” by @LFC_red17 is soothingly minimalistic—a sigh in word shape.

This, if anything, takes a turn for the stranger. Halo characters are being linked to this, as users try to make sense of it. For example, @SilentCart stated, “Buck is the English teacher and dare is a gym teacher,” which doesn’t fully add up but is somewhat acceptable. @JDAlexander3 added, “Buck is the English teacher for sure (crime mystery novelist in tv show Castle 😂),” which is a good use of the reference, considering Nathan Fillion (voice of Buck) starred in Castle. While some of these comments seem to have a rationale behind the speculation, I’m inclined to think they don’t.

The other vital information is found in the replies, where individuals are arguing… about whether this is gay or not. Oddly, for an argument over an illustration of a man and a woman getting married. The “drama” initiated with @TampaDynastySZN calling it “gay and retarded.” This clearly pregnant with outburst comment ignited a whole string of back-and-forth remarks about the topic. @Fracture_2772’s response to the debate was, “How is a man and a woman getting married gay? Are you gay?” which is the kind of energy that needs to be promoted. @theMetalAnimal decided to join the dialogue by letting us know that “MAGAs will hate on anything these days,” so, you know, the standard Twitter nonsense.

Meanwhile, some are recounting their own real-life experiences of teachers getting married. “This happened to my primary school teacher and a gym teacher… we all knew,” shared @RClolwat, which is somewhat endearing. On the other hand, @Freebaser2 decided to go with the classic “And they were roommates,” which never gets old.

The Halo sequel is the focus of contagious frustration, and the comments are loaded with requests for the series to return to its roots. @connor17011 stated, “Make a good Halo 💀 no one wants Slop-lo anymore.” It’s a little mean-spirited, but the sentiment is widely recognized. @BastionRicky, on the other hand, aired his grievances with Halo Infinite’s multiplayer. Um, “Just played halo infinite multiplayer for the first time and man was it trash. Who’s brilliant idea was it to make overshield give invincibility complete trash and deserved to die,” which is one of the innumerable gamer grievances.

Some comments are asking about real Halo news. Instead of derailing the “teacher marriage” topic, @Mixmaster226 asks, “Any updates on the seventh game or getting the show continued?” which is a sensible question. Meanwhile, @Pioneer_AG comments in Italian, “Fatte dei videogiochi che si rispettino,” which means, “Make video games that respect themselves,” and in my opinion, it is a very well-made comment.

What I am seeing here is… unusual. Is it a marketing plan on the part of the Halo account? Does it have a clue to something? Or someone with the Twitter password decided to create some drama? All those options would not surprise me, looking at the way the Halo franchise has been dealt with.

Gaming accounts tend to be out of touch with their player base. And an announcement about some random teachers getting married isn’t something that anyone is looking for from the Halo account. The account is followed for Halo news. Judging by the community’s genuine needs for updates and enhancements to the games, the outburst is expected. Rather than issuing an update about a fictional teacher relationship, the company should work on the games that built their name because Halo is “coming soon” out of date.

Ridiculous to an extent, there is a slow burner that entertains. The Halo community survives even though its passion centers on a strange tweet. At least their passion can help them come together, even if it is united by complaining about a pointless tweet. I hope for a Halo related tweet next because this nonsense is humourless.
