So three weeks ago, right? For EVO 2024, Vegas was practically Street Fighter’s home, and Capcom treated us all with a highlight video. There were developer signings where players could chill with SF6’s developers, a completely bonkers cosplay meet that featured some of the wildest looks you’ve ever seen, a massive booth that probably had a line the entire time, and of course… the main event: the competition to crown the new champions.

Even thinking it was three weeks ago is crazy to me, but the vibes of the weekend’s event are still echoing on socials. The Street Fighter account posted the recap, and straight away, it was a flood of responses. The replies were full of everything, ranging from really deep gratitude to some seriously bullish demands. Classic fighting game community style interaction.

First off, the positive energy. Jim_NasiumFGC posted that it was their first evo and they are “definitely hooked on it now and looking forward to the next!” which is a perfect example of the new blood that’s coming into the scene. gblanco2002 said pretty much the same, “I’ve met tons of great people at Evo! everything about it was literally everything i asked for.” Even Mark “MarkMan” Julio, a highly regarded veteran in the FGC, said “Thanks so much for being there with us.” It genuinely puts into perspective how much these events mean to everyone, right?

Then after that… yeah. The flip side of the coin. There was zero hesitation before players started listing out everything they want in Street Fighter 6. The majority? No Fighter Pass, a.k.a. the Fighter Pass. User Mimi exploded with “@StreetFighter Yet you still haven’t given us a damn fighter pass where is it stop been lazy.” Oof. Straight to the point. Likewise, user samuraishattaz in Spanish said something along the same lines, that without a proper pass and consecutive content, the game feels empty, and telling Capcom to do it right or not do it at all. The translation is rough but the frustration is crystal clear.

And the character requests? They never end. JoshuaSegovia19 is already thinking of Year 3 DLC and is asking which grappler should come back, even pitching Hakan from SF4 and pitching the oil mechanics with Drive Rush system. That’s the next level thinking right there. Meanwhile, Spawn0fSparda is done with the “FGC nonsense” and just wants a release date for Crimson Viper—a highly requested character who still isn’t in the game. The priorities are a mess and it’s funny.

There’s even feedback on the game itself. User Demonfoxll took a bit of a rant about the inputs in the game and the balance to the game calling it “horrible” and even say that during the Capcom Pro Tour there were constant input errors which is strange for a slower SFV game. “Bizarre” is the word a lot of people use and they questioned if it was purposely broken. That’s a… concerning question.

Of course, there’s the fun stuff. Someone requested the epic EVO tournament music to be added to the SF6 soundtrack. Someone else fan requested an Akuma skin to be inspired by some of the fan art. Capcom Fighters posted “take me back 😔” which is a huge mood for anyone who’s attended a major tournament. The post-event depression is very real.

There’s a fighting game community’s signature trademark of simultaneously expressing pure joy while also immediately asking “ok, but what’s next??”. There asking for better balance, more content, and the return of their favorite characters just as Evo—which is essentially their Super Bowl and a massive unifying event—ends. The level of enthusiasm is incredible.

Every year, Evo is the biggest gathering of fighting game players, and Street Fighter is always in the spotlight. It’s great having the recap video, but the comments capture the real story. Players loved the event, yet they’re also Shaming Capcom for no new SF6 content. Since the community cares, they tend to shout the loudest. They won’t stop complaining until they’re indulged. That’s the way it is, the cycle goes on. And now, we’re waiting for the next big announcement. Hopefully, a Fighter Pass. Please.
