Thus PlayStation dropped this tweet about Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater with new screenshots that just make the Cobra Unit look totally insane!! Like, some truly next-level weird energy, so much that it oddly becomes charming. And we have a mention of a hands-on report on updated controls and better graphics, just on cue for the gamers who’ve been waiting since the minute the remake was announced… Replies are a mixed bag of excitement and good ol’ performance anxiety!
Immediately in the comments, some serious concerns followed down. Carlos (@carlostota3): “Unreal Engine 5 at 720p/30fps xD… no thanks,” but that was basically echoed by a few others, like Harperlarp, who said he was going to wait for the patch to make “4k 60fps as standard” because fighting The End at lower frames just doesn’t cut it in 2025. And Slayer Seraph straight-up called PlayStation and Konami to fix the performance issues on PS5 Pro; he called FPS drops “pretty awful.” So yeah, tech-wise, they’re already sniffing some trouble.
Here’s the upside! Ruth_Dickson is fully backing it as “one of the best games of 2025” and of course loving the weirdos. Johnny Snakers claims to have played the original PS2 game 5 times now waiting for the patch and price drop to join in-giving him a pretty fair benefit of the doubt. Nolan Carter also joined the hype about how terrifying the Cobra Unit will look in 4K, totally agreeing with the idea. Big-time visual upgrade, and these classy gentlemen are getting the brilliance they’ve deserved.
In terms of the characters, the Cobra Unit is kicking off a couple of pretty good conversations. GAM3S.GG and Hallocalypse were both wondering about the beekeeper dude, and Chris Carlucci jokingly responded, “Cobra unit, but he controls bees. 🤔” Pretty much true. And Nope (@JanVac91) made the hilarious observation that The Fear is an expert at hiding because he doesn’t even show up in the screenshots. Classic stealth there.
Now, moving on to the whole, uh… thing with character designs. P2E (@CyVHQ5M3qDhPG1M) canceled their digital pre-order, complaining about women being “uglyfied” in the name of inclusivity while men aren’t, which… okay then. But Cobra (@alq_cobra) clapped back with, “She’s supposed to be battle hardened and she is 50 years old. Never seen female truckers?” which carries weight. Johnny Snakers also chimed in with, “Ava still looks fine as fuck,” so opinions are definitely all over the place.
CouchBudz also thought it was an interesting viewpoint, about the remake putting everything on display with no secrets for new players, and honestly? That’s a fair vibe. Remakes tread a very fine line between paying homage to the original and spoiling the mystique for newcomers. But for a lot of them, like Roblue, this is all about nostalgia: “Can wait to play this again. It’s gonna bring back memories.”
Well, hype on Gro3 who said: “Excited for the new MGS!” followed by Dulla, who calls it the “Best game of 2025 🫡.” Samantha J. Foster Composer rushes in too, which is always great to see. And then we have James (@mycollagyMindz), who says, “Tired of remakes,” which is sort of a mood from time to time, but come on-who’d be tired of seeing a fresh coat of paint on Metal Gear Solid?
That tweet itself points to a hands-on report that probably goes way into the updated controls and visuals, which is huge. The classic MGS3 had some clunky mechanics by today’s standards, so that modernization while still keeping the soul intact is what really counts. And it sounds like on the Cobra Unit vibe, they’re really hitting the nail on the head-these characters are iconic for a reason, and seeing them in HD is just phenomenal.
Performance issues or not, the hype is real. Pixel (@pixelluma) even joked about tagging along with the Cobra Unit for their next stream, which is adorable. And Buddy Boy Bets came in with, “Cobra Unit back into the spotlight,” and that is indeed true-they’re getting the spotlight they deserve. But all this talk of “720p and frame drops” just shows that players want their experience polished, especially for a full-price remake.
So, where does it put us? Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater seems like a stunningly beautiful trip down memory lane with gameplay that has been massively updated. But the community is downright vocal in demanding better performance before they could ever fully commit to it. Whether or not Konami and PlayStation will address this before launch remains to be seen, but one thing can be stated for certain-The Cobra Unit really never looked better, even if The Fear is still hiding from the cameras.
