For this weekend’s wild Fortnite OG event, Epic Games is doing what it always does-almost inviting the utmost chaos that marked the frantic early stages-low gravity and the Zapotron weapon. Yes, the low gravity just had everyone bouncing around like they were on the moon, and then the Zapotron laser gun-that kind of insane damage-was definitely back on.
HYPEX-an extremely credible leaker who has dropped Fortnite bombs for years now-gave the announcement. A bigger change in gameplay will come with this special weekend event. Low gravity allowed one to jump higher and fall slower, hence totally changing all building and fighting. And Zapotron was that kind of a weapon that either made you feel like a god or made you quit the game in rage instantaneously, depending on which side you were on.
The replies have already gone into another universe. A few are very excited about this. SuperSquirtle78 stated “Excited to play this!” without punctuation because sometimes enthusiasm leaves no room for grammar. However, there are… others who are more skeptical. ImNicoReal commented, “Been waiting for low gravity for so long just to be ruined by zapotron, great.” Classic gamer sarcasm we all recognize dearly.
Then there’s a whole thing in the comments between a couple of players about whether one of them actually even plays Fortnite, which is always such a pleasure to just watch from the sidelines. As in, these two guys are just going back and forth about battle passes and adding each other-typical gaming-community drama that makes you remember why we love this place.
Interestingly enough is how very split people’s opinions are about this event. While some players are begging for the LTMs to stay forever, others fear it might ruin the OG experience. Personalnoodle said, “If it was an optional LTM it’d be fine, but forcing it onto us with no option to not play it is gonna genuinely kill the mode lmao.” I think that is an entirely valid point. Just trying to enjoy that classic Fortnite feel and suddenly everyone’s bouncing around with laser guns really does change the vibe.
But I will tell you this, Fortnite is always about disruption in some way. Remember when planes were introduced? Or when the whole map flipped upside down? This is simply another chapter in that never-ending chaos that is Fortnite, am I right? Organizing these weekend events just shows they’re listening to what players want while turning 360 on everything.
Zapotron does come with some memories. This thing was basically a prototype for those crazy energy weapons we now have. It charged, then fired a massive laser beam that hit really hard. In the low gravity mode, that combination is going to be crazy: Imagine jump-high, float-down-while-charging-up-the-Zapotron shot, then blast-someone-off-the-residue-from-their-air. It’s gonna become some of the best moment highlights ever!
Not everyone, however, is loving this timing. Bruhhhhhhhiiii said, “The one time I’m on holiday ðŸ˜,” and that is the worst feeling when a limited-time event gets released, and you can’t play. We’ve been there, folks, just watching from phones while they have all the in-game fun.
What’s nice about these OG events is that they’re not returning just old maps; they’re really bringing back the gameplay vibes from different eras. Low gravity was always one of those things that completely altered how you would approach fighting. Building worked differently, movement was different, even shooting was different when everyone was bouncing around. It really forced you to rethink your strategies, so it never got boring.
The community mostly went positive despite the usual grumble that always surrounds any Fortnite update. NotRealms said it well: “The children yearn for LTMs,” which is so true. Players have been begging for more LTMs and variety for a long time; and with these weekend events, Epic is delivering.
According to some leaks, this is really just part of a bigger pattern. Apparently, Epic might be planning different weekend events every week this OG season. That would probably explain why we got to test their low gravity and Zapotron now. So, if that is true, we look at a full month of throwback gameplay modes to maintain that OG season feeling fresh instead of just being the same old boring map week after week.
Whether you love low gravity and Zapotron or hate it, one thing about Epic is the never-ending freshness. For them, nostalgia alone is not enough; they’re actually experimenting in the throwback season. See, that’s some guts right there, which tells me that they know that players want to feel the old feeling with some new experiences.
Go big or go home this weekend with some crazy low gravity action and your Zapotron return. This will be a blast for some and playing-fails-montage for others; a classic Fortnite weekend where the only thing that remains constant is change, and the community is left to argue whether that change is good or not.
It’s good to see Epic take a little risk even in their nostalgia season. They could have well left the OG map be and sat on that for a while, but those events that continuously keep people guessing is what brought Fortnite to the forefront to begin with-the drive to go out in left field and experiment.
So the OG season shall be no different this weekend.
