So Gamescom‘s opening night has come and passed with the reactions running the complete gamut. Dexerto polled the gamers to find out which reveal actually had them hyped up, and the responses were quite a variety, ranging from excitement, disappointment, and utter chaos. It’s a whole vibe.
Lego Batman actually misbehaved as an almost unexpected hero?? The sheer number of votes was “Lego Batman,” almost as if it came back to Earth for the second time. Phantom75 quoted, “telltale lego games have always been fun,” which is okay, but… Lego Batman? Human84 dropped “Somehow Lego Batman” and walked away; it is very befitting. Jaxson Hull commented, “Honestly, the lego batman kinda goes hard,” and Vestedloki followed up with “Lego Batman… easily,” like it was a given. Who would imagine the plastic crusader as being a dark horse winner in these tempos?
Then come the Hollow Knight Silksong ones who are just… suffering. lyra said, “honestly just wanna see more silksong tired of waiting,” which is all too relatable. Themasmedia just posted a Hollow Knight gif captioned, “Hollow Knight – the anticipation is too high ✨”, and we feel you there. The wait for Silksong has been brutal, and Gamescom gave us yet another chance, however slim, that we would get something. But did we? Well, now we don’t even know.
Call of Duty had its defenders as well. IsiOmega asked, “Call of Duty. Who agrees??” while Joshua__web3 bellowed, “Call of Duty all day!” At the same time, lunoxcrypto quickly mashed “cod and hollow knigjt” together as if it was the same thing. At least JaggerReznikov gave us a reality check: “COD is trash now mostly” which hurts, but I am afraid it is mostly true.
Here emerged the weirdos. Caffeinemilktea said, “Zhong Kui looks like it is going to be amazing,” which, sure, but who?? Then, superfry2000 just bombarded the chat with Road Kings 🤣💜 no further context, such brilliance or senselessness. Crazy Moments unleashed the one that makes all of us scream in the theater 😱🎮, a bit dramatic, but honest.
Now you have the disappointed. Phantinokid asked, “wait, that was it for Gamescom? Damn, Lego Batman fr. saved them”, which, by the way, is not a great shout-out for the overall show. SonofSaiyajin straight-up threw a fit with “What happened to the gaming industry 😭”, very much in mood but also dramatic. And Sheebaverse really went for the jugular with “Looking forward to another GTA 6 delay,” which HURT because it’s probably true.
Now the weirdest part, SonofSaiyajin also chimed in “@sjokz Co-hosting was the biggest highlight” which, like… the host was the best part? That’s not good for the actual games shown.
So what is the takeaway? Gamers are dying for Silksong news, hyped for Lego Batman of all things, split on Call of Duty, and mostly disappointed. It’s one messy lineup out there, and Gamescom opening night put all the different factions into the spotlight in gaming. Some want big AAA, some want their indie darlings, some just want Lego games from their childhood, and everybody’s somewhat tired of waiting for things that never come.
The reality is that gaming events have become these weird hybrids of overhyped expectations and underwhelming deliverance. People are craving the big moment that’ll have everybody screaming aloud, but instead, we got… Lego Batman? Not that there’s anything wrong with Lego Batman, but it’s not the earth-shattering bombshell people hope for these big events to deliver.
And, in case you’re still doubting, Dexerto felt the need to throw in their own roundup in the replies—the show didn’t quite hammer it down on its own. Gamers want that one thing that makes it all worthwhile, and for many, it wasn’t there. Except for Lego Batman, apparently. Who knew?
