So uh, a major hint was given by the Spider-Man Brand New Day set at Glasgow, which, honestly, nobody expected—maybe everybody did? The “Symbiosis” poster was spotted on set, and now it’s driving the gamers crazy, along with the Marvel fans. Venom teasing maybe? The black costume? Maybe Mac Gargan as Scorpion turning into Venom? Theories are flying around, and nobody really knows. Let me talk about it.
For starters, the poster is just there acting all casual. But the internet is anything but chill about it. Some gamers are considering it a straight-up confirmation of the symbiote crossing over to the MCU, perhaps in the next Spider-Man movie, whereas others are saying it’s just an Easter egg-like a little wink in the future with nothing immediate to show for it. Then there are those screaming about Mac Gargan—who you have heard of as Scorpion in Homecoming, right?—turning into Venom instead of Eddie Brock. That itself is a whole debate.
Proper chaos in the good sense followed these reactions to the original tweet. Spray @thatvenomfanboy is NOT here for another Venom adaptation: “I don’t think we need a new adaptation of Venom, actually, let’s never have him adapted again.” Ouch. And then you have your opinion from @dio_vaati, saying they expect it to be foreshadowing for Secret Wars and not for the directly next movie- “We need one regular street-level Spidey movie before the Symbiote.” That is actually fair.
@HowzGeysa was basically panicking about the idea of Mac Gargan as Venom, posting a crying emoji and begging, “oh no pls don’t use mac gargan as venom.” However, not everyone is against it—@onemanteam0_0 countered with “Nah let them do it. Eddie is so overrated.” Exhibit A for drama.
Players cognizant of the reference are probed by @jewgibor, “probably just a cool easter egg for the movie tbh i think people read to much into this.” Meanwhile, @Abs0luteN0b0dy feels the hype and tweets, “I knew it. Gargan’s Venom should be very interesting.”
And don’t forget the weird ones like @EsmailMohomad, who argues that this isn’t about Venom at all but about Symbiote Spider-Man and a live-action Secret Wars adaptation. “It can’t be a better time for this adaptation (and i mean ever),” was their bold proclamation.
So what gives? Is it a legit tease for Venom in the MCU or just a fun little inside joke for the hardcore? Nobody knows anymore. But with Secret Wars incoming and Sony’s Venomverse still going strong, I wouldn’t be surprised if the symbiote went for Spidey sooner rather than later.
One thing’s for sure: Marvel has figured out how to keep them-who-they-want-off-balance. Whoever it will be, Mac Gargan, Eddie Brock, or just the very hype-o-meter-worthy random poster has got to take the plunge! And everyone is along for the ride at this point.
I gotta excuse myself and go replay the Spider-Man 3 black suit scene for the 500th time, just in case.
