Post-Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is part of a limited-time trial held by PS Plus Premium, beginning August 19. Yes, you read that right! For every time you thought of getting back into Hideo Kojima‘s weird package-delivering dystopia, here’s a chance to try before you completely commit!

The announcement was flung from Double Helix over the official PlayStation Twitter feed, with the tasty caption, “Game Trial delivery inbound ๐Ÿ“ฆ” โ€” because, of course, there had to be a pun in a game about being one of those delivery guys. The reactions? Mixed, as you can imagine. Some gamers are thrilled, some are roasting, and a few are confused as to why Roblox is still chilling on PlayStation (that one guy is just weirdly passionate about it).

One gamer, @RolandNorbertB, summed it all up perfectly: “Finally, a trial where I can feel stressed, emotional, and confused all at once ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ“ฆ.” Preach on point. @OldGamerGuy23, however, weighed in with more insults, calling it “walking simulator 2,” and wondering if that meant the game wasn’t selling well. Yikes.

What’s juicy is that this trial is exclusive to PS Plus Premium, meaning the $160-a-year level, which @everything2A was “side-eye”-ing: “Yeah, that totally makes it worth $160 a year, forever. ๐Ÿ˜‚.” Surely a good point. Others, like @ChristyDar41980, went on to say that Xbox just would have given away the entire game for free. Are those console wars ever going to slow down?

And then the debate on whether trials like this help or hurt sales ensues: @Tutomosplus wants a straight answer as to whether the trials cannibalize sales, whereas @Sino was of the opinion that that was healthy for the industry, especially for games that don’t have “trillion-dollar company” backing. Deep-cut comments indeed.

Oh, plus, unrelated chaos like @christonchain preaching eternal life in the middle of the conversation or @Beanss_____ saying the game was dead and buried. Bold words for a franchise only recently coming out of the shadows into a sequel announcement.

So, what are you thinking, then? Premium members, circle August 19. Otherwise, pussyfoot around and wait for a sale or foregather prayers that it gets to a lower-tier PS Plus. Either way, that means the weird and wonderful world of Kojima is back, equally divisive as ever.

Oh, and, for the recordโ€”no, PlayStation is not pulling Roblox. Sorry, @KC_4191.
