This is the PlayStation Plus subscribers’ massive upgrade. Insomniac Games has announced lately that Marvel’s Spider-Man: Game of the Year Edition (PS4) will enter the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog on August 19, and Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered (PS5) will follow on the same day. This is so to speak, one of the greatest superhero video games ever released, just about free for every subscriber—oh, and you know how that subscription thing works.
For those who must have missed it for one strange reason or the other the first time (second, or third)… Marvel’s Spider-Man is the real deal. It feels really nice swinging across New York City, the combat is fleshy smooth, and the story? Chef’s kiss. The Game of the Year Edition packs in all DLCs, so signing up means you get everything. In case you are someone using a PS5, then your time is about to be smoother with the Remastered version that liberally spots visuals, ray-traces, and even offers a face for Peter Parker less worthy of internet memes.
And then, the reactions to this announcement? Pure madness, as it should be. Some gamers are in hype mode—shoutout to @dantivirus2 that described it as one “wild ride” (accurate). Others, including @FelixFrijoles, are giving it the sideways glance, questioning how many PlayStation owners don’t already have this game by now. Fair point, but hey, maybe there has literally been somebody living under a rock.
Then there’s the other side. Uh-huh. @death_bee_ asked: “Xbox version when???” while @ShinnoSxntana launched into full-on battle cries, instructing everyone to “buy a PlayStation loser.” Classic. In the meantime, @grok speculated about the industry, suggesting perhaps Sony might eventually port their older titles such as Spider-Man to Xbox and Nintendo for more revenue. Could happen, but for now, if you want to legally swing, it’s only on PlayStation Plus.
Some players replied with, @eastgamer11: “That’s cool for the people who have yet to play em, highly recommend!” That’s honestly the vibe here. If you don’t have Spider-Man yet, this is your sign. Night, combat, web-slinging, emotional gut-punches—everything is top-notch.
So, block August 19 on your calendars, ready the PlayStation Plus subscription, and prepare to #BeGreater. Or maybe, if you are one of seven who have yet to engage in this, brace yourselves for some mind-blowing experiences. Hold on, to the Xbox boys still begging for the port…How about buying a used PS4? Just saying.
Insomniac wins, Again.
