Well, well, well; the big green man is available once again in the Fortnite item shop! Xbox broke the news of our Master Chief once again being available for purchase in this battle royale out of Epic Games. The reactions came from havoc to mixed.
Opening statement-the news isn’t news at all. Many replies had the quick-witted retort that our beloved Spartan had been on and off Fortnite since Chapter 2. Attempting to crush the whole hype thing, SilvaSkata tweeted, “A lot of y’all forgot MC was added to fort in chapter 2.. He’s been available in the shop at least 10 different times now.” Oof. Real talk.
But the statements kept coming without pause. More than a few of the gamers expressed excitement for it, with Norby Blg tweeting with meme energy, “))Master Chief just dropped into Fortnite? 🚀 Time to finish the fight… but with a Victory Royale this time 👊.” American Nerd in return posted a gif of Chief dropping from orbit with the caption “Ready to drop”-same here.
Then came the salty comments. Ohh, the salt. GamersReckoning at it with “When Fortnite is better than the latest version of Halo you should probably rethink things.” KnockedOut_City gave a much more direct answer with “Why don’t you just focus on making a good Halo buddy.” Yikes. Xbox probably felt that one.
The whole “console wars” thing was going strong, with Evil-MC joking, “That soon-to-be PlayStation character. XBox really had lost its identity.” However, this is not Xbox showing off, as rightly pointed out by SilvaSkata; PlayStation players have been able to get the Chief skin every time it has been up-for-sale.
Now that was some weirdness right there. OldGamerGuy23 said, “Wow, how dare you cheapen Master Chief by adding him to the kiddie game Fortnite.” SowardTodd replied with a sweet little sarcasm: “They make Halo megablocks lol” – because nothing screams “hardcore mature gaming” like plastic building blocks, right?
And of course, Bnasty would not miss an opportunity to throw shade on Xbox, saying, “Stop laying off your employees and make more games. If you keep closing studios and keep bleeding talent, at some point you need to do something about upper management.” That escalated rather quickly.
The most ironic part? Half of the replies really seemed to have no idea it was a re-release. Carton3222 said it best: “Why is everyone acting like he wasn’t already in the game since like 2020.” Because apparently, gamers have goldfish memory when it comes to cosmetic rotations.
Anyway, it’s just another day in gaming crossover land. The presence of Master Chief in Fortnite almost makes itself obvious: these two are cultured franchises at this point. Whether you’re thrilled to don the MJOLNIR armor for your next Victory Royale, or you feel that the whole thing is a taunt to the whole Halo legacy, they’re going to be talked about every time the skin is released.
And honestly, this is going to be hilarious: the Chief doing the griddy after knocking someone out with that purple shotgun. That is just the perfect juxtaposition of gaming in 2024.
