Finding better than this would be an extremely difficult challenge in Azeroth. An opening cinematic for an expansion like World of Warcraft Midnight shall be unleashed into the wild at Gamescom ONL on Tuesday, August 19. The stream will start at 20.00 CEST/14.00 ET/11.00 PT. Judging by the history and the previous WoW cinematics, this one is certainly going to be gargantuan.
Rumors kept everyone with bated breath even before the ground was shaking. Of course, this was among the announcements that were made via Geoff Keighley’s Twitter account. The players have gone mad with some of the users screaming in all-caps (looking at you, @Goosejawlol with that “IM READY LETS GOOO”), while a few others weren’t really thrilled.
In another unhappy tweet, @GamerCyberpunk slam-dunked WoW as a cash grab, with the rest of his appeal running along the lines of complaints about monthly subscription, paid DLCs, and microtransactions. @Funisfunbehappy, however, shot back and said, “You don’t have to buy the microtransactions; they’re just cosmetic.” The debate got heated, and @CyberpunkGamer94 stuck to their point, “It’s a massive cash grab, pay monthly to play, paid DLCs on top of that, and all the overpriced microtransactions—no thanks.” Meanwhile, @Funisfunbehappy shot back, “Have you played the game recently? It’s really fun and probably the best it’s ever been.”
Meanwhile, @Colgar91 was dropping the cryptic (and kinda weird) comment, “The female expansion, can’t wait 😞.” I have no idea what that means, but hey, WoW discussions are never dull.
But of course, some of the replies were cordial, with some fans just hyped for the cinematic. @Paacreek posted a gif of someone nodding fiercely, captioned “This is what I’m here for!” And @Jetflight141 teased, “Tuesday gonna be fun, the void is coming,” presumably alluding to the Void-themed storyline of the expansion.
If you don’t know by now, World of Warcraft: Midnight is going to mark the next huge point in the history of MMORPGs, and if Blizzard’s track record is anything to go by, the opening cinematic will be jewel on its crown. Jaw-dropping introduction cinematics graced the previous expansions of Hell and Shadowlands, so it is on that high bar.
On the other hand, a lot won’t quite agree to this. With @RageCrusader and @Durly1718 seeming pretty sure as to envisioning a downward spiral for the game, the latter added, “You would think after nine years of screwing around they would’ve gotten it correct.” Ouch.
To which @le_lexel adds, “Not even close, instead it’s growing again since 2 years.” So… who’s right? We’ll probably find out when the actual expansion drops.
One thing’s for sure – whether you love it or hate it, WoW still knows how to get people talking. With the revealing of the cinematic just a few days away, it promises to be chaos just waiting to happen.
So mark your calendars, set all your reminders, and buckle up. Tuesday will be one for the books.
(For those hoping for Spider-Man on Xbox, like @meyerpark, sorry pal, wrong tweet.)
