Nintendo released a fresh trailer for its development label Drag x Drive – the wheelchair basketball game in development. It kept putting on display the skills of the devs. The team recorded an entire exhibition match with a few crazy advanced moves just to hype people up viewing the perspective that way. This weekend will mark the start of the Global Jam demo period; time to get out there and try those moves for yourself.

But that’s not necessarily getting through to every single rowdy observer out there. The reception was mixed. Some were buzzing; others went so far as to call it “handicapped Rocket League” (ouch!). One player even joked, “I wonder if you have to green not falling out of your wheelchair,” which is dark, a very dark sense of humor. Others, meanwhile, are still holding out on begging Nintendo to spill the beans about Metroid Prime 4. Classic.

The demo, being free, is almost no risk, but some are already dismissing the game as a real contender. “Really pushing hard for a game that will die in less than a month,” one reply reads, and it’s definitely not a compliment. These people also question, “Why just four hours for a demo? A full weekend makes more sense for a game that’s already set for obscurity.”

Then there is the whole Cyberpunk-Drag x Drive debate. One player asked, “Which do I get for $20?” The answer was anything but kind to Drag x Drive. Another user added, “Go for Cyberpunk. It’s a polished open-world RPG; the other game’s demo probably deserves the try before spending any money.” Fair enough.

The complaining about Nintendo goes on forever: Switch 2 achievements? Smaller cartridges? Charity support? All of it. One user even claimed Nintendo was plagiarizing Epic Games, which, you know, sure.

Rearward thinking in the world today: Drag x Drive is making wheelchair basketball with motion controls. Will it stick? Who knows. But one concern for sure: the devs certainly put the work in with those advanced moves. The real question is whether players are going to care enough to learn them.

So yeah, grab the demo and try your luck; see if this game’s got legs—or wheels, in this case. Meaning, don’t expect everyone to be cheering from the sidelines.
