During one of the latest hype attacks, Nintendo is assuring Switch Online subscribers of an exclusive icon for attending the Drag x Drive: Global Jam demo event occurring this weekend. Pre-ordering for the demo is already available, and everyone is talking about what is in store. Some, however, are still side-eying the rationale behind charging for Nintendo Switch Online to even try the demo.
So what is the reason for this Drag x Drive? A pretty insane racing game, Nintendo is tempted to have some very exclusive cosmetics in the bargain to hype it. The event will soon kick off; a 7-day free trial is also up for grabs for anyone that hasn’t Subscribe yet. And perhaps that is the point of contention: some players have been calling the paywall out, reminding that test events such as Splatoon Global Testfire and ARMS Global Testpunch did not require any subscription.
Reaction has been mixed. Some gamers like Robbie_reigns1 and johniibo started Tweeting excitedly with “Im really excited!” and “I’m really excited for this!” Others, though, complained and said. Brrrrrisky dripping with sarcasm: “I remember when the Splatoon Global Testfire and ARMS Global Testpunch didn’t require paying subscription fees. That’s gonna gatekeep even more people from trying something that already largely has minimal interest.” Oof.
__4pm brought a bit of chaotic energy among other clay spins, saying, “Cant wait to steal wheelchairs and blame Nintendo for teaching me the pleasures of using one.” Uh… okay then. And jazc_007 went all-in ranting and tagging Nintendo with, “Can’t convince me yet, Joketendo. Let people play your games to raise money in charity events instead 🤡💩👋 #DropThePrices #NintendoGreed #VoteWithYourWallets #FUNintendo.” Yikes.
But it’s not all controversy. GameCentric laid down the law: “Pre-order hype is building, but the demo better deliver solid gameplay.” And Metroid Theorist was right there with thought-provoking inquiries: “I wonder if there are specific characters, or if you make up your own character. 🤔🙂”
In that moment, some replies totally went off-topic. MetalTechGizmo just randomly asked, “Can we get sonic adventure battle 2 on there? Also ssx tricky?” Like, bro, this is about Drag x Drive and nothing about your 2000s nostalgia wishlist.
Then with Switch 2 hopefuls. LOSTLEAD8R spammed, “Nintendo switch 2 achievements please,” twice, as once simply wasn’t enough. Elmasheavier89 also said, “No free trial, we want proper physical games on the switch 2.” Cool, but that is not what this tweet is about, my dude.
Now, seemingly, these opinions are either going to be loud the more Nintendo pushes this demo hard and on up to now, whether people are excited or salty. The event is here, rewards ready. And if you’re going to grab that exclusive icon, better have your Switch Online Subscription ready. Either you use the free trial and hop, or you ride the hype train. Some of these players have already been left behind.
Are you going to ride the hype train, or is this one going to pass you by this weekend? Whether yes or no, just keep an eye on Nintendo; there are a lot more surprises in store, and we all know the internet will bunk about this.
At least it got crazy, crazy wild tweets. Never changers, gaming community. Never changers at all.
