A New Game+ feature was introduced with the most recent update, Title Update 1.0.7, by Ubisoft for Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The official Assassin’s Creed account asked in a tweet, “Who is diving into their second playthrough?” and reactions ranged from hype trains to thoughtless chaos.
Like, people are speedrunning NG+ like it’s nothing. @TheRealZephyrss was over here saying “Done with a 🔥” for the fun of it. Then @IbaWkk comes along with a crazy 330-odd hours in nightmare difficulty run with immersive canon mode, so wild for treating Shadows as a full-time job.
And some are having none of that. @Lesh423112 laid the bombshell “Ew I’m good I won’t even play that game 1 time that shit is ass”—ouch. Then @olivr_wtf is comforting us, saying it’s too much exploration for one playthrough. @chillianhayes is in the trenches, still slogging through their first run and questioning how they might have enjoyed Valhalla more. A bit too close.
The update ain’t for everyone, though; @Myschiefus reported crashing out whenever they entered the Animus during arena fights, while @StruckEllis3227 could not get NG+ to start despite meeting all requirements. Ubisoft classics–the good old launch week vibes.
Some are entertaining different methods in replaying it. @MylesAway07 joked about having Dead by Daylight skins and begging for Uncharted-style visual filters so the game could resemble Silent Hill (???). @Hannamillerm hilariously inquired, “Do I start New Game+ like a disciplined warrior or spend 3 hours customizing my armor again?” So true.
Others are holding off for DLC, while there are people who don’t want to touch NG+ because it “feels like cheating.” On the other hand, @Milktub69 has complaints specific to kunai pickup rates being nerfed—in fact, they called the new 50% nerf “diabolical.” One would never imagine the economy of shurikens could stir up such earnestness.
Maybe one of the more insane remarks is the one by @Milktub69 again, who dared someone to try and perform EIGHT playthroughs to see whether the almighty ninth ever manifests. The cause of science must take precedence.
So, clearly, what does the update bring? NG+ grants a rerun with gear/skills, nightmare difficulty, and some QOL tweaks. From the looks of reactions, the player base is either all in or apathetic altogether. No dull compromises in-between.
So, whether you’re going for another spin of feudal Japan or going to trash this game for all time, one thing remains true: AC-goers never go boring. And now, if I might be excused, this armor designing session demands another 40 hours of my life.
