Lara will be returning to The Fog on August 5 with two fresh new looks for Dead by Daylight. The official.instagram account of Tomb Raider happily announced the release of both the “Iconic” and “Shadowrunner” skins; and well, let’s just say- the gamers are going literally nuts-well, not for the good reasons.
For starters, the simple nutshell: The “Iconic” look evokes Lara’s classical style, while “Shadowrunner” feels more modern and tactical. Both are sleek and deadly, ready to meet the horrors Behaviour Interactive has for them. But the real kicker is that some players actually do enjoy these new looks while others really don’t.
The hype is really what Shypotle wanted to ignite, replying with a tweet: “You expect me to choose? That’s impossible as I LOVE all the treasured looks @deadbydaylight raids from Lara’s crofty closet!” On the other hand, baseqq is just unimpressed and called the Iconic outfit “bad cosplay” for the actual outfit. Ouch. Not to be left behind was Botched_Bimbo, who called the skins “fing ugly” with an insult or two under the belt: “these are not real Lara.” Sure, very harsh from Botched_Bimbo, but hey, there are those or opinions on anything now, aren’t there? Or those on everything now, aren’t there?
Alas, what helped decrease the value of the argument initiated was the drama that arose over the renders. Everywhere, there seemed to be users pointing out on social media that the official account had failed to credit the original artist, which was a huge etiquette breach of courtesy in the community of gaming. Alistair, commenting under his alias xZombieAlix, blasted them in the most simple way possible: “The official TR account just posting Fans Renders without crediting them 😭 shout out to @FleytaFley.”
Aside from this drama was the bigger question: why do we not have more classic Lara outfits supported by skins? Players like fr3sley and 35antonio were already begging for Legend, Underworld, or Angel of Darkness skins. And honestly? Exactly. Just imagine with me: a killer chasing you around in Lara’s bomber jacket from Legend- iconic!
Now, onto the interesting ones. User jaoz_n7 ranted about curves demanding a Lara “pleases everyone,” while TheDemiGabriel wishes for her to have “muscles like Kassandra from Assassin’s Creed.” And honestly? Valid.
But the real MVP is the Shadowrunner. Aedamiano summarized things perfectly: “Shadowrunner is looking too perfect. I’m rocking that shi as soon as it drops.”
So what could we say about Lara Croft’s fresh new DBD iteration? It pretty much goes like this: crazy, piecing-dividing, honestly kind of iconic. Whether one loves the new lookout or considers it a crime against the very history of Tomb Raider, one thing remains clear: August 5 is going to be a dank day in The Fog.
If nothing at all, let us all agree on one thing: We need a brand-new Tomb Raider game in a hurry!! As Thesnipergecko said, “Just announce a new game already.” Preach.
