Nintendo announced the 48th MAXIMUS Cup, Donkey-Kong-style to the block-dropping chaos. Between August 1, 12 AM PT and August 4, 11:59 PM PT, players may redeem Donkey Kong Bonanza for an environment at 100 event points, i.e., fresh theme music, Tetrimino designs, and visuals to speak some energy into the competition.
Well, honestly, is anyone still into Tetris 99? The comments blew my mind, really law, some persons had admitted that they thought the game had slipped into quiet discontinuance. Somehow someone with the handle of @Megadetta even stated, “NGL I thought this game was gone and delisted lmao. Maybe I’m just thinking of the Mario Bros one.” Tetris should still be blue with updates, just like back at the beginning blossom.
The Donkey Kong theme is what really matters. Players who’ve gotten previous themes, like @justinwhitmore2, want to grab one more: “I know I have DKC Returns HD theme but I think I still have the original Donkey Kong theme.” Otherwise, it’s sweaty 99-player free-for-alls. @DarkDesertFox let the harsh truth out: “I still have never gotten first in this game after all these years.” Same, brother. Same.
But not everybody there are just for the fun of Tetris. The tweet from Nintendo somehow beckoned for a Direct, with replies screaming “Where is the DIRECT???” and “Micro Direct before the real Direct?👀”. Classic. Even @Pokemonfan2500 took it into full conspiracy theory mode, claiming the Direct will drop this week with zero evidence and will be “delayed” when it is proven wrong. The desperation is real.
The Tetris 99 community is thriving, in its own bizarre manner. Some are simply happy it’s still being updated, like @_EelGoodInk who jokes, “Glad we’re keeping Tetris 99 up to date with the Switch 2!” While others, like @GeNeTiC_967, are still mad over the demise of Super Mario Bros. 35 and so loud are their demands: “Bring Mario 35 (40 this time) back you cowards!! XD.”
And the international types! Asked @Player_bugeado, ‘Tetris 99 sigue vivo?’ Meanwhile, @TarlissonJose and @olivotec did a serious discussion in Portuguese on whether they’d ever reach 100%. Spoiler alert: Dorned Imcso.
So, yes-the brutal-faced Tetris 99 is still around, just with its new Donkey Kong look. Whether for the theme, for competition, maybe just to laugh while screaming into the void about Nintendo Direct, 48th MAXIMUS Cup is your next big thing. Just do not go KO too fast because these Tetriminos ain’t gonna let you slide.
And if those hopes for some announcement are still alive… go touch some grass. Or, you know, play some Tetris.
