Nintendo has released the second batch of custom icons for Super Mario Party Jamboree, and players can collect them by redeeming some MyNintendo Platinum Points. The offer is valid for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 alike, though make haste because this will cease to be on August 20, at 6pm PT. No worries if your favorite character does not appear; every week, the whole icon set gets scrambled for more collecting.
And they tease Jamboree TV in the announcement from Nintendo’s official Twitter account. What it actually meant is still unclear: Is it a new mini-game mode? Or just a video-on-demand situation? The F-corporation has kept it ambiguous thus far; I think they will try to unleash the demand very soon, which will be very much drowned by the typical wave of hype and chaos that are already clogging the replies.
Certain character icons are being requested by the gaming communities. The urgency to get a Diddy Kong icon was expressed by one player; in the meanwhile, others kept calling for fan favorites’ returns, such as Hammer Bro and Dry Bones. It especially annoyed some for Yoshi while others said Yoshi definitely needs a new render: “My goodness, Yoshi is in dire need of a new render,” and boy, what an apt statement.
Some seem to jump on the ongoing Nintendo drama. One reviewer described Nintendo as “anti-consumer” due to the newest changes made to their gold coin system, whereas another cynically joked that Nintendo might as well “charge us 80 bucks each for them!”—which, considering recent price tags, honestly is not too far away from reality.
On the other hand, some do praise the Mario Party icons for gracing their profiles with beauty. “Big fan of that Luigi,” wrote another user, thus proving that sometimes the most simple things bring the utmost joy. Yet another user lamented his misfortune of not being able to partake yet: “Maybe next time!” as in his own way he had managed somehow to have his Switch still en route from the mail.
And now here comes the usual obligatory “WHERE’S THE DIRECT??” replies with each and every give-away from Nintendo. C’mon; it’s like clockwork.
Then, going to one of the farthest, weirdest reaches of the replies, an attempt was made to start a big Toad Points rumor involving a secret code. Yeah… it’s not real. You want to know what happens if you put ‘TOAD’ in the redemption box? Go ahead try it. You owe us a report.
If you have been harbouring those Platinum Points like some sort of digital dragon, it is about time you redeem them. Whether you want it for the class, out of FOMO, or just because you think Mario-esque profile pictures are fun to collect, it is one of those small joys that makes it worthwhile to own a Switch.
So unless you want to regret it, it suddenly will be August 20; right after that, these icons will be gone. Maybe. Until Nintendo unwittingly surprises us by bringing back something half the world thought was story, you know. It’s what keeps us all on our toes.
