Destiny 2 has never felt more exotic with the release of the Graviton Spike Hand Cannon. With the operations of The Edge of Fate under his belt, and PvE and PvP meta have started to grow theorycrafting for the weapon. Some insist the weapon is an outright game-changer, while others…well, opinions are about as mixed as Crucible matchmaking nowadays.

One player (@HiredGunSG) hit the nail on the head while describing Destiny 2 Too Well’s life cycle: “It’ll be nice for like the first part of the season then it’ll be nerfed into the ground and everyone will forget it even existed.” Oof. Too real. For now, though, it’s slapping harder than a Cabal drop pod.

Trials players – set up with potential – @hrbie_ highlighted the danger of Stasis shots in one teamshot scenario, while @donat3llooo argued that a lower RPM makes this a fair trade. @GlennTheDroid on the other hand just wanted to know what everybody was freaking out about when @hrbie_ landed the first two punches: “If you have to ask you haven’t entered crucible in the last 2 days.” Brutal.

Though, not everyone felt the same. The replies come with complaints about bugs-from disappearing catalysts: @MarketAmazonX lost his and is mad about it, crashing errors: from @iSnepss, to conquest mode problems: from @Lazluxe. Really, all very typical Destiny 2 type things from a launch window.

The player base appears to have picked up a few tricks for it. “@Zeke_the_Xbot declared, “You cooked with this one thoroughly enjoying it,” while others like @Revived_player1 are just trying to get one for themselves. Due to the weapon’s unique set of abilities-one can switch between Stasis and Arc modes-the community has been debating whether the switch action should initiate a full reload (perhaps worthy of consideration by @uwuadi2112).”

The split in the community is pure classic Destiny: one side exults at the new possibilities within the meta while the other is irritated at yet another headache. Either way, Graviton Spike is at the forefront, whether people like it or not. The real question is whether it will be relevant past the inevitable balance patch while Guardians enjoy the madness: in Destiny 2, the only thing that stays constant is change. And maybe Telesto to break the game in a new way.

Anyways, halfway through the season, we should be finding out whether this Exotic manages to keep its head above water or if the sun will set its name quicker than you can say ‘sunsetting’. What will never be questionable- at least for a while – is that Bungie sure knows how to keep things fascinating even if breaking everything in the process is involved. Maybe Graviton Spike is the chaos the sandbox has been craving or yet another down-memory-lane moment in Destiny’s lengthy chronicle of briefly-buffed toys. Now it’s time to treasure hunt with fellow guardians!
