Marvel Rivals fans have gone absolutely crazy with requests for a total remodelling of the hero select wheel! The debate flared up after the official Marvel Rivals account tweeted that it was about time they put to rest the current wheel, and that ignited a fiery debate from the fans about how the wheel operated and what alternatives there were.

The pick is all about usability or lack thereof. While some consider the painstakingly slow scrolling and tedious to use in the current setup, others quickly make changes during matches in the fast track that can be an instant win or losing to be a very bad menu. MidnightVCoco put it: “to be real, its quite difficult to find a character on the wheel. I keep forgetting where a certain character is.”

It turned into a full-on debate on solutions. Some, like Camkahzee, proposed a “favorites” option: “What if like we had a favourites menu. And it Starts at the top of the wheel with 9 characters you favourited so you dont have to scroll for the ones you use a lot.” The idea was getting some traction from other commenters who felt frequently-used sorting would resolve a lot of issues about the wheel.

Vulture was one of rare voices, entirely in favor of keeping the wheel: “Nah it’s infinitely expandable so I’m not sure why they’d change it. What’s a superior alternative?” Which then led to suggestions ranging from an Overwatch-style grid layout to a quick-select menu developed by the community. Star wars Dark Side edits said: “That layout screen from Overwatch isn’t so bad. You got em all right there and more easily to take.”

ADynasty dropped some heavy shade, turning the conversation around: “not a mf with 0 lords complaining about the wheel,” basically implying that only those who’ve hit the top echelons (lords) in the game ought to be loudest about the system at hand. What eventually ensued was a discussion surrounding what really makes a “true” member of the Marvel Rivals community.

An interesting schism actually arose in the debate in how a player goes about the game, with some support mains admitting that they actually switched to DPS because of the wheel failing in critical moments. Camkahzee said, “I was also a Support (lord C&D, invis, and Mantis) then i swapped to DPS cause i was tired of it,” showing how UI issues can develop into behavior and role picks.

Problems on the technical side also emerged as EL_Skunto_44 laid it on the table: “When I had a nvidia gpu it would freeze all the time now I have a AMD gpu it never happens.” Giving one to think that the game performance opens and closes with the musings of the GPU.

Amid the increased chaos, one thing appeared evident: the system doesn’t work for a large chunk of players. Be it for the scrolling, the character organization, or the overall interactivity of the whole thing, Marvel Rivals probably needs to rethink their hero select. Competitive play is blossoming, with probably more characters on the way, so finding a solution that satisfies casual and hardcore is going to be critical.

Officially, the developers haven’t come out with a response yet, but given just the engagement of the community, it would be difficult to believe they aren’t at least pondering some changes. Whether it means delving into this current wheel, implementing a favorites system, or throwing in a totally new one, remains to be seen, but one thing for sure: the hard feelings around hero selection mean that the players of Marvel Rivals aren’t going to remain quiet for much longer.
