Once the tuppence troubled but now redeemed open-world RPG on the road, Cyberpunk 2077 has recently been added to the service of PlayStation Plus Games Catalog. The announcement by PlayStation has caused a thunderous noise agog with fans who have thought much to advance into Night City again, with spilling complaints here and there. And while a few rejoice, a few others demand more features, updates, and even a sequel.
Its inauspicious launch in 2020 was cataclysmic due to its being so rough on the edges. Meanwhile, patches, after patches, have been released and are quite humungous improvements with the great Phantom Liberty expansion. In the wake of this inclusion in the PlayStation Plus, an increasing number of players will get to dirty their hands in neon-lit streets of Night City without having to shell even a dime, yet an extremely huge chunk of folks are annoyed.
First things first, the performance! Ansh Bandral said there were frame drops in particularly crowded areas, wondering if it’s a game issue or PS5 needs cleaning. Similarly, others, like Glenn Peeples and Dominic Matteo, were upset that CD Projekt Red still has not been able to finish optimizing the game for the rumored PS5 Pro. “You need to push them to support the pro,” Matteo added, with the majority in the replies agreeing.
And an eternal debate: first person or third person? Huggybearjr said bluntly: “They need a 3rd person mode,” a request which has been around since launch. bmoe_carefull meanwhile sarcastically asked, “Where’s the 3rd person?” as if the answer was already painfully obvious.
But not everything is lamenting. Ross (DeAdSHot_ZA) praised the redemption arc of the game as having long gone away from being de-listed. “Love to see the game it turned into.” Then, a composer, Samantha J. Foster, expressed love for the Phantom Liberty DLC, asserting that the expansion made an impact on her via its story and soundtrack.
What’s the other big one? Storage. Simon Foy joked about uninstalling like three other games just to make space for Cyberpunk with its absurd 100GB install size. Jeremy (takeshikitano3) agreed: had to clear some precious SSD real estate to give this bad boy a chance.
Speaking of Phantom Liberty, a few players such as Tim94216 and flamingbofa wanted to know if the expansion was included in that PS Plus package. (Spoiler: it ain’t. But hey, the base game is still quite a steal.)
Some critics, including Culturally Inappropriate (jarellf), also wondered: “Is this game any good? All I saw was people complaining about the gameplay.” Meanwhile, immediate riposte came from John (LesMuttons): “Released as a dumpster fire. Now…a masterpiece.”
People like Krodriguez12K were already eager for playtime on PlayStation Portal, while others like Runevoice, having salivated over the game’s visuals, offered hope that the PS6 would push native path tracing.
Then it’s the keyboard and mouse crowd. eViL_TOX said the lack of support on PS5 was a HUGE L, so it would seem some players cannot abandon their control preference.
Indubitably, according to the mixed reactions, Cyberpunk 2077 has found itself carved in the good books of players. Whether returning players or first-timers, Night City welcomes you all. Make sure you install enough storage.
