The item shop update tonight is causing much outrage among the Fortnite players, and it’s being given multiple spots on social media. There are No Sweat (x2), Megastar Car, and Battle Ready (8x -> 4x) changes in the shop, but the response received from the community could unanimously be described as negative.
The tweet from HYPEX showing the contents of the shop just instigated that negative reaction even further, with one player sarcastically declaring, “Shop tonight is ass,” to which another replied, “That shop really said ‘less content, same energy’.” Ouch. The aggravation somewhat stems from what players have come to regard as repetitive and uninspired choices of late in the item shop. As murkoffnurse put it: “the store has been dogshit for like two months now, i can’t take it anymore lmao.”
Some gamers are getting somewhat more specific about their wants. FnTeamLegacy urged, “We need more DC skins like Cyborg or more Family Guy characters,” while another asks for the return of the OG Crystal skin: “Og crystal when,” says lovelovinglia, and Dark☆ wants rare collaborative projects updated. There’s even some DBZ excitement, with Nerdy Omni-Man asking, “Any word on DBZ?”
Timing might be among the issues, too. As __Mourning said, “Night before an update, yeah its gonna be dogshit.” This means the players still have hope for better stuff after next update. Well, at least one player had a very interesting dream about the emote coming out? Dxrksamxz noted, “Honestly I had a Dream that Emote was released for some reason,” Fortnite surely lives rent-free inside all our heads.
Amid all the complaining, there are surely a lot of funny moments from discussing the best skins and speculating about particular items making a return. Birdy | Fortnite News wants the OG J Balvin skin to come back, saying, “They should stop gatekeeping the original one.” Meanwhile, Lazarus Wolf keeps up the positive vibes with, “I hope they bring back KELSIER soon. Also Snake Eyes.”
All the drama in the item shop comes as Fortnite continues with new updates and collaborations. While tonight’s offerings might not be sale-makers, the very passionate response just goes to show how deeply invested players are in cosmetics. It remains to be seen whether Epic would copy any of these suggestions, but one thing for sure is that the current generation of Fortnite players won’t keep quiet when the item shop is less than they expect.
As the community eagerly awaits possible new updates and new items, the conversation continues unabated on social media. Rare collaborations would be nice, skins that are favorites would be preferable, and I’m willing to bet a few are still healing from “I Have Rust Issues” playlist. Whatever lands next in the item rotation, there are gonna be hot takes coming from players.
