Bungie seems to have got in a little cruel joke against the Fate of the Destiny 2 players, for the Rite of the Nine event will soon be ending. There was a rather cryptic tweet from the officially verified Destiny account that said, “The Nine have seen what they needed to,” immediately followed by the announcement of the event’s ending. And believe me, the community has feelings about it.
So what will happen after this? The Rite of the Nine, that mysterious endgame event guarding the Guardians in grinding mode for weeks, is indeed about to be swept into the Destiny content vault. Players are advised to finish their pursuit, claim their reward, and then wait. But here’s the catch – no one knows exactly WHEN it disappears. Classic Bungie-style keeping us in suspense until the last minute.
Reactions? Oh, man, all over the place. Some players like iiizwerg are mourning: “I will miss rite of the nine π”. Others like SirCosta11 call it “recycled content with irrelevant rewards.” Ouch. Pretty much somewhere in the middle – some good moments are there, but it has its flaws.
What’s also interesting is that this is breathing life into discussions about Destiny’s seasonal systems. ximamam took the shot: “Imagine removing good content to force us to pay for more fomo content”. RandomDragon216 quickly responded: “all the good seasonal content is gonna be free starting on Tuesday”. And the back-and-forth in those replies is a great indicator of just how split the community really is over how Bungie is handling things.
The serious questions came up on the stage then. DewdSaid summed up the confusion of most players with a rapid-fire list of questions about exotic engrams, ciphers, and season pass rewards. That is a classic Destiny moment of confusion: are we missing something obvious, or are the systems really this complicated?
Weapon balance conversations began heating up as well. Timothy_Mark7 and peateargri73152 went further in-depth to compare event gear to meta weapons like Lord of Wolves. JohnVine354681 and irvvvvvvvvvvvv weighed in on aim assist and cheating accusations. Because what would Destiny be if not the good old controller vs. mouse-and-keyboard drama?
And finally, others were finally realizing they had never even gone through this event. BaconStrpz lamented: “So upset I never got to play this π’”. And Ghost_2799 slipped an LFG for Ghosts of the Deep dungeon – see, they really do promote both FOMO and community bonding.
So what now? Bunige has been teasing some big changes for Destiny’s seasonal structure, and the mixed reactions toward the Rite of the Nine going away clearly demonstrate the need for evolution. Players want meaningful content that sticks around, instead of a bunch of temporary activities that vanish into thin air.
While the clock ticks down on Rite of the Nine, Guardians are frantically trying to wrap up some last-minute checklists. Whether you preferred this one or hated it, the departure of this event will go down as yet another turning point in the ever-evolving Destiny 2. Now, excuse me while I rush to get those final triumphs done before they’re gone forever.
