If Graced with entering into the MCU, it would be justified to say that she remained better-known for her breakthrough role as Lyanna Mormont in Game of Thrones and, more recently, as Ellie in HBO’s The Last of Us. Late last weekend, an offbeat tweet from the insider account MyTimeToShineH had fans furiously debating whom they would want to see Ramsey play in the MCU. The answers? Well, craziness involved, with everyone scattered.
First things first: an elephant in the room-some fans are NOT excited by the prospect of this casting. Answers ranged from “Ew, fuck no” to “Plss gawd NO,….!!🤮🤮🤮” (all imaginable gagging emojis). One insultingly terrible fan voiced that it would be “smart” for Marvel to stay clear of her after she had been part of what he called a “MASSIVE mistake” in The Last of Us. Balls to the wall. But then there’s a saying that you cannot please all.
While those esteemed arguments and many others, legit (less so from time to time), flew around, several came up about Kitty Pryde of the X-Men; one fan and one of those comparisons from side to side, claiming great resemblance. Others proposed Jean Grey or Storm, while one man walked from facetiousness to actuality by saying she could be “someone’s dad.” Dad, if you’re listening, take note.
And then, weirder. MODOK was mentioned many times, with one outright declaring, “She could play MODOK.” Another said, most probably “comic accurate Doop,” without a hint of facetiousness, proposing Mole Man “because…she got a mole kinda vibe.” Let’s just say it’s never been so…specific.
Then the real madness ensued from the trolls. One was for “The Blob. She has the face,” along with a meme,” Another said it was for “SPUDDER Man” (whatever that is). And, not to forget, another thought she’d be perfect as “Daughter of Thanos.” Yeah, sure. By now, Marvel could probably make it work.
Sure enough, other mentions weren’t just joking or hateful. Some fans were rooting for Ramsey’s acting: “She a good actress”; others said dishonest takes about her performances shouldn’t cloud her talent. Fair game. Ups and downs, Ramsey belongs to the trove of types-from fierce little leaders to post-apocalyptic survivors. If Marvel does get her, she would surely carry along with her an interesting character.
Anyway, verdicts? Uh, no. No confirmation from Marvel, silence from Ramsey’s camp. But, if indeed the MCU were eyeing her, the more profound question: what kind of role could truly embrace her? Superhero? Villain? CGI monstrosity? Time will tell.
Until then, rage shall erupt on the internet, flicking memes and vomiting emojis. Classic Marvel fandom.
