A new teaser has debuted, showing off the game’s latest champion, the mighty warrior K’Sante. League of Legends is a pillar of the multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) genre, with a dedicated player base and a long history in competitive play. While Valiant and Legends of Runeterra have helped Riot diversify its product line, League of Legends remains the studio’s most successful title.
A continual trickle of new champions, balancing adjustments, and game upgrades have kept League of Legends relevant since its inception in 2009. With the addition of Nilah and Bel’Veth in Patch 12.11 for League of Legends, the total number of playable champions in the game has increased to just over 160. In addition, Riot has taken advantage of the excitement around the 2022 Worlds tournament for League of Legends to announce the next champion to be added to the game.
Riot has announced the upcoming release of K’Sante, a formidable new tank, in-game with a video showcasing his abilities on the League of Legends YouTube page. The preview describes K’Sante as a mighty warrior whose pride caused tension between him and his companion and who has subsequently strived to overcome this weakness.
The teaser also features a fight scene in which K’Sante uses his trademark tonfas to defeat a gigantic predator, demonstrating a specific part of his character in which he transforms his supposedly protective, blunt weapons into lethal swords. To further commemorate Lil Nas X’s work with League of Legends in developing the Worlds 2022 anthem, STAR WALKIN’, K’Sante will soon be given a new champion skin. Riot is marketing him as a “high-level top lane tank,” although his exact stats and playstyle have not been revealed.
Riot’s capacity to produce other successful games like Valorant can be traced, at least partly, to the success of League of Legends. Fans of Riot’s first game will be relieved to hear that it isn’t being abandoned in favor of the studio’s future projects, such as the possibly free fighting game Project L.
