Microsoft has been quite busy these past few months. They’ve been in the works of unveiling a new console, supposedly set to revolutionize the way consoles are played. They’ve also put a lot of emphasis on cloud gaming, which seems to be where gaming is heading lately.

Their Project xCloud will utilize cloud-based technology, where gamers can play their favorite titles on devices via hardware with remote capabilities.  This opens up so many more possibilities as long as gamers have a strong internet connection.

This technology was shown in a recent Xbox Livestream. The specific game on display was Forza Horizon 4, which was played on an Android phone with an Xbox One controller. The very thought of playing high-definition console games on a mobile device is amazing to think about.

It has a lot of applications. For example, say someone is watching a show on the television that the Xbox One is connected to. Well, you can just stream a game on your mobile phone and have the same experience. Sure, you’ll be looking at a smaller screen, but at least you’ll be able to play while other family members are engaged in other entertainment activities.

Apparently, Microsoft plans to put out trials for this cloud-based gaming system later in the year. These trials can’t come out soon enough. These attempts make sense considering their long-time rival, Sony, recently put out an update that enables PS4 gamers to stream their favorite games on iOS devices.

Hopefully, Microsoft puts a lot of time and effort into making these mobile gaming experiences as smooth as possible. Remote Play is a great feature for Sony, but it does come with some issues. Most notably, when your internet connection suffers, this feature shuts off completely. This can be frustrating right when you’re in the middle of a game.

Microsoft really could set themselves apart from its competitors by ensuring there are no lagging or streaming issues on mobile devices. If they can make Project xCloud a success, it makes sense that more and more gaming companies will start taking cloud-based gaming seriously.

It seems like the way of the future for gaming is streaming technology. It will take some time to get used to, but these changes could really enhance how games are played. The future of gaming seems to be extremely bright. It will be intriguing to see what additional updates Microsoft and other companies can come up with.
